How to choose your pet insurance limits in Las Vegas

The 3 important limits you need to be aware of when it comes to pet insurance is annual limit, annual deductible, and reimbursement level.

The annual limit of a policy is the maximum amount of money you can be reimbursed from your insurer per year. If you anticipate that your pet will incur a lot of medical costs, you should elect a high annual limit. Most annual limits range from $5000 to $30,000.

Pets Best, Healthypaws, and Pet Plan offer unlimited annual limits. The higher your annual limit, the more expensive your monthly premium will be.

The annual deductible is the money you have to pay when you use your pet insurance. You only pay the deductible once per year, whether you use the insurance plan once or twenty times. The higher deductible, the lower your monthly premium will be. If you have a relatively healthy pet that you don’t anticipate incurring an expensive medical bill, you should choose a higher deductible if you think there’s a chance you won’t use the policy in a year.

The reimbursement level is the percentage of the medical bill that you will be reimbursed when you apply your insurance. For example, if your pet’s vet bill is $1000 and you have an 80% reimbursement level, your insurance policy would cover $800, and you would have to only pay $200. The higher your reimbursement percentage, the more your monthly premium will be.

The best pet insurance in Las Vegas?

Embrace is one of the best pet insurances in Las Vegas due to its wide range of policy offerings and discounts.

If you have multiple pets and live in Las Vegas, Embrace is a great choice. They offer an automatic 10% discount to your monthly premium if you have multiple pets insured through them. It doesn’t have to be the same two animals, so you can still save if you have one dog and one cat.

Embrace also offers a $50 diminishing deductible if no accident or illness claims are reimbursed for a given policy year. A policyholder is still able to submit claims, and the credit would still be applied if the claims they submitted did not surpass their annual deductible.

What does pet Accident and Illness pet insurance cover in Las Vegas?

If you elect to purchase an Accident and Illness pet insurance plan in Las Vegas, it will typically cover the majority of your vet bills associated with accidents or illnesses/diseases. This usually covers cancer diagnosis and treatment plans, emergency care, x-rays, tests, and most prescription drugs.

The only insurer on our lists that doesn’t cover exam fees is Healthypaws.

Additionally, most insurers will not cover cat spay or neuter procedures.

Does pet insurance cover pre-conditions in Las Vegas?

Unfortunately, there are no insurers that cover pre-conditions for pets in Las Vegas. This is why it is advantageous to get a policy for your pet while they are still young and healthy and haven’t developed any pre-conditions.

Common pre-conditions for pets include cancer, kidney or heart disease, and arthritis. If your pet has any of these, an insurer will not offer you a policy.

Most pet insurance companies will require your pet to undergo a health examination from a licensed vet to insure they don’t have any pre-conditions before they extend you coverage.

Should I get pet insurance in Las Vegas?

Based on my own personal experience, I strongly recommend getting pet insurance, especially if you have a cat. My current policy costs less than $50 per month, and it gives me peace of mind knowing I have coverage if anything were to happen to my cat.
