Cat diagnosed with the Coronavirus in the UK

The Guardian recently announced the first coronavirus case in a pet in the UK. On Monday, July 27, it was revealed that a pet cat has tested positive for Covid-19. This marks not only the first cat in the UK to test positive for corona, but also the first household pet. The veterinarian believes that the cat contracted the coronavirus from its owners. While both owners did have the coronavirus, they have since made a full recovery. Using contact tracing it was determined that the cat did not give coronavirus to the owners or any other animals nearby. However, many people are now fearing that the coronavirus could spread through household pets such as cats and dogs. Apparently, the cat tested positive for the virus last Wednesday. The private vet initially diagnosed the cat with feline herpes, but it was later revealed that the sample showed traces of Covid 19.

Can the Coronavirus spread through cats?

According to the top veterinarian in the UK, Christine Middlemiss, there is no evidence that the coronavirus can spread through cats or dogs. The cat in question that tested positive for Covid only exhibited mild symptoms and is expected to make a full recovery. While the coronavirus may not spread through cats, we still recommend that you thoroughly wash your hands after petting any sort of animal, as the virus may be present on the pet’s skin or fur.

Corona virus in cats can eventually lead to feline infectious peritonitis.

Are there any cases of cats with Coronavirus in the U.S?

In April, it was announced that two pet cats in New York had tested positive for coronavirus. At the time of this writing, there have been four confirmed cases of coronavirus in cats in the United States. While the real number of coronavirus cases in cats is probably much larger, there has still not been a confirmed case of a human getting coronavirus from a cat.
Perhaps it will become obligatory for cats to wear masks when they leave the house.
