Soft Paws for Cats

Cats that are constantly scratching can be very hard to deal with. From scratching furniture in your home to people or other cats, a scratching cat can be harmful to humans as well as their own health. Training a cat to stop scratching can be a long process that is sometimes ineffective.

Additionally, trimming your cats nails only fixes the problem temporarily. While some cat owners opt for declawing, others find the practice of declawing unethical. For comparison, declawing (removing the last bone on your cat’s paw) would be equivalent to cutting off every one of your fingers from the last knuckle and onward.

One of my cats, Ralph, has been excessively scratching since he was a kitten. I personally do not believe in declawing, so I decided to give Soft Paws for Cats a shot.

Why I ordered Soft Paws

Ralph is a very friendly cat, but he has long struggled with constant scratching. While waiting outside the door, he would frequently scratch the glass door and had broken many window screens. While playing with him, he would inadvertently scratch me and sometimes would draw blood.

From frequently trimming Ralph’s nails, scratching board, to non-scratch spray, I really felt like I had tried it all. I was excited to try out soft paws for cats to try to curb Ralph constant scratching behavior.

Soft Paws for Cats Sizes

Soft paws for cats come in three different sizes: small, medium, and large. As an averaged sized cat (10 lbs), I opted for the medium size for Ralph. I have read online that kittens and small cat weighing up to 7 pounds should use small, and big bone cats (like Maine Coons) that weigh 15 pounds or more should wear the large size.

As you can see below, soft paws come in a variety of different colors which gives you the opportunity to style your cat’s nails however you wish. To start off I decided to give Ralph orange.

How to apply soft paws for cats

In the picture above you can see the adhesive glue that is used to put on soft paws for cats. Application was much easier than I expected. All you do is apply a bit of the glue into the soft paw (which is essentially like a small cone) and then slide the soft paw on to the nail to cover it.

If you have a cat that is anxious, I recommend petting it and giving it a treat during this process. I wasn’t able to take a picture of this process because I had both hands on Ralph, but if you have any question please reach out in the comments below. If your cat is very fidgety, I recommend rapping it in a towel while you put on the soft paws.

How to remove soft paws for cats

Removing soft paws for cats is extremely easy, as they usually just fall off naturally as your cat’s nails grow. However, if the soft paw has not came off after 7-8 weeks, I recommend trimming it off with a clipper.

How long does soft paws for cats last?

Each “soft paw” stayed on my cats paws for around 5 weeks before naturally falling off.

Where can I buy soft paws for cats? Cheap soft paws for cats

Soft Paw for cats can be purchased from Amazon for a very cheap price (around $12). Each batch comes with enough soft paws and adhesive to apply 4 separate applications. Doing the math, the soft paw product that I ordered should last me around 5 months. This is a very easy and effective way to fix your cats scratching problem, and for only $12 I certainly recommend it!
