How to Clean a Cat Tree?

How to Clean a Cat Tree

Our felines need constant attention. Beyond attention, they also love being cozy and lazy.

What can be better than getting them a specialized place where they can stretch, play, hang out and sleep?

Of course! A cat tree fulfills all these purposes, but it can come at a cost if you aren’t proactively keeping it clean and tidy.

You know maintaining a cat tree requires deep cleaning every now and then. No cat parent would ever like to have a stinking, full of fur cat tree for their lazy feline friends. In the worst scenarios, the pet cats can sometimes forget about their litter boxes. Sometimes, out of nowhere your cat might start pooping in the house all of a sudden. Whatever the reason might be, a cat tree can definitely become messy over time. Therefore, we put together a quick list of the best way to clean a cat tree.

How to Clean a Cat Tree?

To clean up the mess, here’s a simple four step process that every cat tree owner should apply at least once a month:

Step 1: Get Rid of the Cat Fur

Most of the feline species shed hair. The hair can cause allergic reactions if not cleaned timely. For cleaning your cat tree of feline hair, you can use two methods. You can pick up a regular scrubbing brush and a comb. After you scrub the cat tree carpet with the brush, you can take the hair out of it by using a comb.

After that, vacuuming the cat tree will ensure capturing any remaining hair.

Here’s another method you can use that requires less effort.

There’s a variety of economical deshedding tools available in the market. Get one and use it to capture all the hair.

These deshedding tools are used exactly like a comb. Put the tool on the carpeted cat tree surface, and move it. You will see heaps of cat hair captured in the tool.

Keep a bag with you to gather all the hair.

Note: Do not go harsh with the tool because it can rip the carpet.

Step 2: Use a Disinfectant Spray

Yes! You guessed it right.
I am going to suggest the household favorite disinfectant spray that is made by mixing equal amounts of water and vinegar.

Haven’t we been using it for ages to clean every nook and cranny of our homes?

We will stick to it this time around as well.

Take a spray bottle and mix equal parts of water and vinegar into it.
Spray the carpeted surfaces generously with this spray.

You may think of using a store bought disinfectant instead of this one, but do you want to irritate your pet’s skin?

Use this one to avoid any skin irritability to your pet.

Note: Make sure that your dainty little creatures are out of sight when you’re cleaning up their favorite space.

Step 3: Look Out if the Cat Tree Requires Spot Cleaning

Although not very likely with a trained cat, sometimes your pets can have accidents on the cat trees as well. That will cause you embarrassment if you don’t put effort in spot cleaning the carpet.

These stains are not only stains, they cause stench as well, so it’s always good to spot clean any accident.
Make a solution of your dish washing liquid and water and wipe the accident spots with it.

Note: Do not go overboard with wiping the carpet. It can rip the surface.

Step 4: Use a Vacuum Cleaner or a Steam Cleaner

Depending on which machine you have got for cleaning carpets, use either a vacuum cleaner or a steam cleaner to further capture dust and dirt.

Steam cleaners are a far better option as compared to a vacuum cleaner. In fact, there are several steam cleaners which are specifically designed to capture fur from the knitted surfaces.

However, if you don’t have a steam cleaner, you can go with the final step of vacuuming the cat tree.

Note: Be ready to run a search operation for your felines afterwards because they get scared of the noisy cleaners.

The Clean Takeaway

Although this may look like too much work, for a caring cat parent, it’s a cinch. You know the satisfaction you get when your feline babies stay happy, healthy, clean and active. For maintaining this love bond, take your steps to create the cleanliness bond as well.
