Ways to use coconut oil to prevent and treat fleas on your cat

You can use coconut oil, both orally and topically, to prevent and treat your cat for fleas. The following are specific ways you can use this readily available oil on your cat effectively;

  • Apply coconut oil to your cat’s skin and coat to manage itchiness and treat wounds that your kitty has self-inflicted while scratching. However, after application, monitor your cat to ensure that she does not lick away the oil before her skin absorbs it completely.
  • Apply coconut oil on comb and run the same through your cat’s fur. As you do this, some of the fleas will stick to the comb, allowing you to remove them quickly. The remaining ones will most likely not remain on your kitty’s body because of the smell and presence of oil which they detest.
  • Include coconut oil into your kitty’s diet to prevent flea infestation. The antimicrobial properties of coconut oil make it useful for enhancing healthy skin in your cat, and also for avoiding infections if your kitty eventually ends up getting fleas. However, feed your cat only small portions to prevent stomach upset and obesity, which could result from overeating fatty food.
