When it comes caring for your cat, one of your most important responsibilities is to feed your cat a healthy, balanced diet. The food brand you choose can have big implications on your dog’s health and overall well-being. I have decided to make a list of the best cat food brands, in terms of both nutrition and cost.

The Best Cat Food Brands

The best Cat Food Brands are Purina, Meow Mix, Sheba, Blue Buffalo Wilderness, and 9Lives.

  • Best Overall: Purina
  • Best Dry Cat Food: Meow Mix
  • Best Wet Cat Food: Sheba
  • Best High Protein Cat Food: Blue Buffalo Wilderness
  • Cheapest Cat Food Brand: 9Lives

Best Overall

The best overall cat food brand is Purina. They have a wide range of products, including both dry and wet cat food.

They also have a lot of diet specific formulas. For example, they have a high-protein formula food that is specialized for urinary tract health. They also have grain free formulas which are great for cats that have digestion issues, or cats that have irritation on their skin/fur. They also have standard and gourmet options which you can choose based on your budget.

The most popular line, the Complete Essentials, is made with real seafood that gives it a rich flavor your cat will probably love. It is reasonably prices, as 24 cans currently cost around $25.

Best Dry Cat Food

The best dry cat food brand is Meow Mix original choice dry cat food. You can get a 22lbs bag for around $18. It has a high protein content which is great for younger dogs that are still growing. It also has a wide range of flavors including: chicken, turkey, salmon, and even beef. This makes it great for dogs that are picky eaters.

While it isn’t a gourmet food brand, they delivery a high-quality, balanced meal for a very reasonable price. They are also Climate Pledge Friendly, which is awarded to brands that are dedicated to packing their products in a eco-friendly manner.

Best Wet Cat Food

The best wet cat food brand is Sheba. They are known for their quality product and really affordable products. For example, you can get 48 cans of the Sheba Perfect Portions Paté Wet Cat Food for only $16. This line is my favorite because the 48 cans come in a variety of flavors: 24 salmon, 12 seafood, and 12 white fish and tuna.

This is great because it provides your cat with a wide range of flavors so that they’ll never get old. Sheba cat food also doesn’t add any artificial flavors to their food. It is also great for cats with sensitive digestion systems, as it does not have any grain, corn, or wheat.

Best High Protein Cat Food Brand

The best food brand for a cat in need of a high protein diet is Blue Buffalo Wilderness. They have two main lines that I like the most: Blue Buffalo Wilderness High Protein and the Grain Free Blue Buffalo Wilderness High Protein Cat Food.

Blue Buffalo Wilderness contains a lot of natural fibers which help with your cat’s digestive system. The grain free line is a little more expensive ($40), but it contains a hairball prevention formula which is great for cat’s that struggle with hair balls.

Both of these protein formulas are great options for cats that need to maintain or put on some weight.

Cheapest Cat Food Brand

The cheapest cat food brand that still delivers quality product is 9Lives Dry Cat Food. Currently, a 20lb bag costs around $15 on Amazon. 9Lives Dry Cat Food has a lot of high quality protein, which is great for a growing cat. It also has a high level of taurine, which helps support your cat’s hear and their vision.

Lastly, it also has a high omega 3 fatty acids content, which helps keeps your cat’s skin and coat healthy. It comes in three different flavors: Chicken, Beef, and Salmon.

Feeding your cat

Aside from choosing the right cat food brand, there are other things you should be aware of when you feed your cat. For example, you should make sure you have a bowl of fresh water next to the food bowl at all times. This is very important, as water not only keeps them hydrated, but also helps them with digestion.
